Stephen Colbert Final Late Show Party Has Fired and Festive Dress Code

Stephen Colbert’s time with “The Late Show” won’t end when the final episode tapes at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on Thursday. Sources tell me that he’s hosting an after-party following the taping at a nearby event space.

The invitation is topped with the show’s red, white and blue logo tweaked to say “The LAST SHOW with Stephen Colbert” followed by “that’s a WRAP! (PARTY).” The dress code reads, “Fired & Festive!”

Colbert’s final show will tape on May 21 and air later the same night on CBS. The network announced in July that it was ending “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” after 11 seasons, insisting it was a purely financial decision.

Following the cancellation announcement, Colbert took CBS to task for his firing as well as President Donald Trump, who celebrated his pink slip on Truth Social. “Go fuck yourself,” Colbert said to the President on camera during his opening monologue on July 21. “Folks, I’m gonna go ahead and say it: Cancel culture has gone too far,” Colbert said. “Over the weekend, it sunk in that they’re killing off our show. But they made one mistake: They left me alive. And now, for the next 10 months, the gloves are off. I can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about Donald Trump, starting right now.”

Guests for Colbert’s final show have not been announced. I’m told that many celebrities, besides the ones invited to the series finale, have been invited to the after-party.

Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon have announced that their programs will go dark on Thursday to honor Colbert, meaning ABC and NBC will air reruns of their shows instead of new episodes.

Up next for Colbert is co-writing a “Lord of the Rings” movie. Peter Jackson recently told Variety that Colbert pitched the script before “The Late Show” was cancelled.
