Sydney is under siege by the worst flood in 500 years

NSW Minister for Emergency Management Steve Cook said: “We must be prepared for the possibility of loss of life. While I would like to reflect and sincerely hope that we do not see any deaths from this event, I think it is unrealistic that a disaster of this magnitude means that no one has died.”

According to the Guardian, the towns of Ballina and Lismore in New South Wales have been hardest hit.

Meteorologists predict a continuation of the natural disaster, assuming that the last similar events occurred on the continent more than 500 years ago – before the colonization of Australia began.

The authorities organize the evacuation of local residents from the areas most affected by the disaster. On March 1, residents of several areas of Sydney, one of the country’s largest cities, were announced to have evacuated.
