The Block Is Rolling Out MAFS Style Dinner Parties & I Can’t Wait For Wine To Be Thrown

In news that proves reality TV really does love to recycle a good drama formula, The Block is about to serve us a “dinner party” straight out of the MAFS playbook, minus the fake weddings but (probably) with the same amount of chaos. Don’t adjust your TV sets, kids.

According to insiders, an upcoming ep sees the three The Block houses shoved around a big table at the famous Lakehouse restaurant in Daylesford to “air grievances” and “resolve issues”. Translation: simmering beef, passive-aggressive smiles and a few one-liners sharp enough to cut through MDF.

“It looks and feels exactly like a MAFS dinner party,” one crew member told PEDESTRIAN.TV with a laugh. “At one point, I honestly thought I was working on the wrong show.”

And just like MAFS, the mood apparently got heated. No word on whether wine glasses went flying but production sources admit everyone was silently praying the stemware stayed upright.

On the night, Han and Can (From House Two), Robby and Matt (From House Five), Sonny and Alicia (From House Four) were all forced to face off over dinner. Things quickly spiralled into the kind of TV gold that producers dream about:

“You’re not talking to us.” –Alicia (calling Han out directly, setting the scene for confrontation).

“What’s your problem? I’m not NOT talking to you, Leishy.” –Han (immediately defensive, dismissing her concern while admitting his own struggles).

“I’m not angry at you. I’m just a little bit hurt.” –Alicia (softening it but keeping the emotional sting alive).

“I’m upset that you think that we’re purposely hurting your feelings.” –Han (pushing back hard, accusing her of misinterpreting).

“No, I’m just saying, I’m purposely hurting everyone’s feelings. I’m just hurt in general.” –Can (a muddled, frustrated outburst. Pure MAFS energy).

“I’m making a decision for the betterment of my game. Not anyone else’s.” –Sonny (cold strategy talk at the dinner table).

“You can take it, leave it, think I’m an arsehole. I’m doing this for my wife. My family. My kids.” –Sonny (the ultimate blow-up grab, pure dinner-party drama).

The Block contestants might not be walking down the aisle but sit them at a table and the drama speaks for itself,” another insider spilled.

Executive Producer Julian Cress earlier this year teased the Married At First Sight drama when launching the 2025 season. Knowing a classic line is coming every season: “Somebody at some point says ‘you are dead to me,’ and we’re off and running.

And for anyone screaming that The Block is sliding into full MAFS territory, Cress pushed back hard:

“It’s just a very easy thing for people to throw out. If you watch Married at First Sight and you watch The Block side by side, there’s not a chance that The Block’s going to become Married at First Sight,” he said.

Still, he admits there was at least one spicy moment that could pass the MAFS vibe check:

“Did we have a moment OR two that could have been something that could have happened on Married at First Sight? Sure… but we’ve also done a thousand episodes,” he added, acknowledging that people will compare this week’s drama but not conceding that this ‘dinner party’ is a direct play on MAFS formula.

Keep an eye on the glassware and the one-liners.
