‘The Boys’ Composers Talk Pushing The Envelope For An Envelope-Pushing Show – Sound & Screen TV

The composers on The Boys are apparently going to have to wait a long time, if at all, for a note or two from creator Eric Kripke on how to do better.
After performing spirited pieces from the Prime Video superhero drama at Deadline’s Sound & Screen: Television event, composers Christopher Lennertz and Matt Bowen were asked if they’ve ever been scolded for going too far with their music.
“I’ve never gotten a note saying I’ve gone too far. If anything, it’s I can go farther,” Lennertz said. “Eric usually says make me give you a note, and I never seem to get that if I tried.”

Lennertz reminisced about when The Boys first went into production and how he formed the “band” that would create the soundtrack for the superhero show. With Bowen as his first member, the duo recalled how they would scour junk stores and guitar joints for unique instruments — basically buying “everything to try to make music.”
Nowadays, Bowen admits, it’s become an “embarrassment of riches” when it comes to finding people to help create new sounds for the hit show that stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid and Antony Starr. “Everything freaks out about doing music for The Boys,” he said. “Its easy to get people excited.”
Kripke has warned fans that “there will probably be lots of death” in the upcoming fifth and final season of the Prime Video series, which is in development after a record-setting Season 4. The final season is expected to drop in the summer or fall of 2026.
Back in 2020, Kripke noted that his “rough idea” for the comic book TV adaptation was five seasonswhile acknowledging that his previous show Supernatural ran for 15 seasons. “But I also know better than to say how many seasons a show is gonna have,” he said at the time.
The final season of The Boys comes after Season 4 topped the Nielsen streaming scores for the first time, setting multiple records for Prime Video. Meanwhile, Prime Video has ordered the prequel series Vought Rising starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash as Soldier Boy and Stormfront.
