The Minister of Agriculture witnesses the signing of a memorandum of understanding to exchange expertise and modern technology with the State of Myanmar

Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, witnessed the signing of a joint memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, with the aim of enhancing joint cooperation in the agricultural field and related activities.

 

The memorandum was signed for the Egyptian side by Engineer Mostafa Al-Sayyad, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, while it was signed for the Myanmar side by Dr. Yee Tint Ton, Director General of the Agriculture Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.

The cooperation aims to strengthen bilateral relations in various agricultural fields, with special attention given to cooperation in vital sectors that include: cotton, potatoes, agricultural business management, agricultural research and development, and modern biotechnology.

The memorandum identified a set of executive activities that will be worked on to translate this cooperation into a tangible reality, including: the exchange of seeds and agricultural materials, expertise, advanced technologies, and technical information, as well as the implementation of research, training, and exchange of visits. And study tours between experts and specialists from both sides, in addition to joint promotion of production, manufacturing and marketing processes for targeted agricultural commodities.

For his part, Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, stressed the strategic importance of this cooperation, as it represents an important step in deepening South-South cooperation, and reflects Egypt’s commitment to enhancing its food security and developing its agricultural sector through fruitful international partnerships.

He explained that focusing on strategic crops such as cotton and potatoes, in addition to the areas of research and biotechnology, will contribute directly to Technology transfer and development of high-quality varieties, for the benefit of farmers and the national economy in both countries.  Farouk expressed his aspiration to mutually benefit from the accumulated experience in agricultural business management and applied research, to ensure the achievement of sustainable agricultural development and open new horizons for agricultural products in global markets through joint marketing efforts, stressing the importance of this cooperation as a starting point for joint efforts aimed at achieving a qualitative shift in the production, manufacturing and marketing of agricultural commodities, and building the capabilities of technical personnel in Egypt and Myanmar.
