Tragic final moments of teen who fell to his death from Sydney building

CCTV has captured the frantic moments after a boy fell 30 metres to his death from a heritage-listed building in inner-city Sydney.

Emergency services were called to the popular creative arts hub Hibernian House in Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills, about 9pm on Tuesday night after reports that a person had fallen to the street.

A teenage boy, 17, suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

It is understood he had been balancing on a rail when tragedy struck.

Two friends who were with him at the time were uninjured but were treated for shock.

Footage from inside the building showed the trio, wearing backpacks, entering the top floor of the five-storey warehouse.

Only two were captured leaving moments later.

‘Ambulance! You have to get down here now, I think he died,’ one boy can be heard saying during a triple-0 call.

‘Ambulance, ambulance!’

Police were later captured examining the scene with flashlights.

Officers are treating the teen’s death as a suspected tragic misadventure.

Hibernian House is dubbed one of the most graffitied buildings in Sydney.

It is a popular and easily accessible site for unaccompanied minors.

However, it is understood the teens had permission to be in the building from a tenant who leases a space there.

‘There’s a lot of businesses in this building, so lots of people coming and going. It’s not overly hard to get in,’ one tenant told the Daily Telegraph.

‘I saw on the cameras the three teenagers walk across the balcony. I assumed they were there to hang out or do some tagging.

‘Young people are attracted to it because of all the artwork when you walk in. I don’t think it’s an issue of security; it’s an issue of curiosity,’

Police investigations into the teen’s death are continuing.
