Ukraine-Russia war latest: Trump urged to take action after calling Putin ‘crazy’ over record drone strikes

Western leaders have urged Donald Trump to take action against Vladimir Putin after he called the Russian leader “absolutely crazy” for firing hundreds of drones and missiles at Ukraine overnight.
French president Emmanuel Macron said he hopes Trump’s latest remarks would “translate into action”, while Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky called for the US to slap additional sanctions on Moscow instead of continuing to hold a dialogue with Russia.
Germany’s foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, meanwhile, described Putin’s continued attacks on Ukraine as an “affront” to Trump, who has tried for months to bring the Russian leader to the negotiating table.
Trump issued some of his sharpest criticism of Putin after Russia fired 355 drones and nine missiles at Ukraine — the largest aerial attack of the more than three year war.
He added that if the Russian president tried to conquer all of Ukraine, it would “lead to the downfall of Russia”. But it was yet another threat by Trump against Russia that, as of yet, has not been followed up with action.
The Kremlin reacted to Trump’s latest comments by thanking the US president for his efforts in brokering peace before suggesting he was getting caught up in the “emotional overload” of the war.
