
A motorcycle rider has been rushed to hospital in a critical conditon after he struck a pole in Sydney’s southwest.
The tragic accident occured on the Cumberland Highway in Liverpool at around 10pm on Thursday night.
Daily Mail Australia understands the young man may have turned his head to look at friends behind him who were flashing their headlights from a car behind him.
He then struck a pole and was thrown from the motorcycle.
The northbound lanes of Cumberland Highway were closed for several hours while crash investigators examined the scene.
The motorbike rider has had one leg amputated and suffered a compound fracture to the other.
