You’re sitting on a fortune! The everyday items hidden in your house that may be worth THOUSANDS

While many are waiting for the day their numbers come up on the Powerball, there might be a much quicker way to make some money… all without leaving the house.

For those keen to make an easy buck, it’s absolutely worth having a rummage around home because there’s a high chance those dust–covered knickknacks could be worth a lot of cash.

And with spring cleaning under way, what better time to sift through those long–forgotten bits and pieces?

Antique specialists, collectors and fashion experts have exclusively revealed to the Daily Mail the unassuming items stashed away at home that could be worth thousands.

From vintage clothes shoved at the back of wardrobes to sports memorabilia buried in attics and even branded coffee mugs, here are the everyday items that could be worth a fortune.

Knick–knacks

There’s a chance that the coffee mug you have been using every day for the last few decades has more monetary value than you might expect.

Although they will not garner a potential six–figure sale, coffee mugs can be lucrative in small earning increments, JustAnswer appraisals expert Noralen Curl told the Daily Mail.

‘Always look at the underside of the mug,’ she said. ‘Those Starbucks mugs awarded only to employees can sell for five figures.’

She pointed to the 2002 Iwo Jima Barista Starbucks series mug, which has resold for between $6,000 and $19,000 based on past comparable recorded sales.

‘Illy demitasse cups, by Ginori, with Marino Marini graphics have sold for anywhere between $900 and $2,000,’ she added.

Porcelain enamel and hand-painted wooden signs have become popular with collectors

Similarly, porcelain enamel and hand–painted wood advertising trade signs command big bucks well into the thousands.

Whether they are ‘eggs for sale’ signs or big brand petroliana and soda advertisements from General Stores, these vintage pieces are high–priced.

‘As time marches on and the digital world becomes de rigueur, nostalgia for these ‘old fashioned’ ways to convey a brand becomes ever more valuable on the market,’ Curl said.

At the time of writing, a rare Coca Cola two–sided porcelain sign from 1932 is priced at $4,000 on eBay.

Collectibles

A lot of money can be found in memorabilia and collectibles, and many people have items such as old trading cards stored in the attic.

Ken Goldin, founder of Goldin, the leading auction house for trading cards, collectibles and memorabilia, said such goods have been passed down through generations.

Well–preserved vintage baseball cards are among the most lucrative.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Goldin revealed that the 1909 T206 Honus Wagner, known as the Mona Lisa of baseball cards, was incredibly valuable.

‘As part of our 2026 Winter Vintage Elite Auction, that card sold for over $5 million,’ he said.

‘That was taken care of by their grandfather and held onto by the family for 116 years.’

Goldin notes that other potentially valuable items can be sealed cassettes, vinyl or VHS tapes as well as sealed video games.

‘Our 2026 Winter Pop Culture Elite auction closed in February, and a 2001 Game Boy Color Pokémon Crystal Version sold for $73,244,’ he added.

‘It was in great condition, received a PSA 9.8/A++ rating, and Pokémon has a huge global audience.’

Vintage toys related to sports or entertainment licensed properties like He–Man, Ninja Turtles and Star Wars also hold value. Why? Because nostalgia sells.

Similarly, Stephen Fishler, a collector, buyer and seller of comic books for almost three decades, recently sold a comic for the record price of $15 million.

In January, he played a part in the sale of an extremely rare copy of Action Comics #1, which introduced the world to Superman.

The multi–million dollar sale was one hundred and fifty million times its 10–cent cover price in 1938.

‘Kids may have collected them and often mom threw them away, but some remain and could hold amazing value,’ he told the Daily Mail.

Jewelry

There might also be some more modest hidden gems inside your jewelry box.

‘Once considered “granny” style, vintage costume jewelry brooches are now coming back into style for chic fashionistas,’ Curl explained.

‘What used to be 25 cent to a few dollar finds in jumbled church sale piles, are now commanding $50 to several hundred dollars in resale.’

Advising on the best pieces to keep an eye out for, the appraisals expert suggested: ‘It is best to find pin brooches that have maker marks on the backside, like Monet, Trifari, Miriam Haskell, Coro, Eisenberg, Hattie Carnegie and Coro.’

Clothes

Hundreds and even thousands of dollars could easily be sitting in your closet.

According to fashion expert Lauren Bulla, vintage clothes, such as Levi’s jeans, can value at impressive prices depending on quality and brand name.

Speaking on behalf of Savoo, she told the Daily Mail that high quality denim is harder and harder to find, and vintage Levi’s have a particularly durable reputation.

‘Depending on when they were made and the popularity of the style you may have, these items could be worth hundreds of dollars,’ she said.

‘Considering that vintage and pre–loved garments are back in style in a big way, you may want to consider cashing in on this unexpectedly valuable garment.’

Levi’s jeans made in the ’40s and ’50s are selling on auction websites such as eBay for $500.

At the time of writing, an original pair of Levi’s 501XX denim jeans from the mid–1940s WWII era are listed for a staggering $43,965.30.

Another pair of 1940s Levi’s 501XX denim pants are advertised for $7,965.00.

Leather cowboy boots might be worth a lot more than you realize.

‘Quality materials and well–kept exteriors often get more interest, and therefore, you’ll be likely to achieve a higher payout, but the novelty value of this footwear could be worth quite a bit,’ she said.

‘Anywhere from the high end of the double digits to the hundreds.’

Expensive items in your wardrobe

  • Cowboy Boots – $100+
  • Vintage Levi’s jeans – $100+
  • Leather jackets – $200+
  • Vintage band tees – $1,000
  • Authentic vintage furs – $1,000+

Brand names to look out for include Frye, Ariat, Lucchese and Stetson.

Leather jackets and leatherware products will resell at a pretty high price.

‘Often, well–made leather products get better and more visually appealing with age, which is part of the reason for the higher payout,’ Bulla said.

‘This, of course, depends on condition, quality of leather, brand, as well as production date.

‘Depending on the rarity of the brand and silhouette, you can expect a couple of hundred dollars for these items.

Some harder to care for leathers like suede can be more valuable, it just depends on how well–kept these garments are.

Vintage band t–shirts could also fetch an eye–watering price on the second–hand market.

‘If you’ve got any tour merch tucked away in your closet, you could be sitting on quite a bit of unexpected value,’ Bulla said.

She claims these authentic items can be worth hundreds if not, in rare cases, thousands of dollars depending on the band or musician.

Acclaimed bands like Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead and Guns N’ Roses are likely to fetch more, as well as musicians who have since passed away.

Similarly, authentic vintage furs can sell for thousands of dollars depending on where they have been made, the designer label and its condition.

‘With more of a push toward synthetic fibers, away from animal furs and skins, authentic vintage fur could be worth a high price tag,’ Bulla said.

‘For well–kept furs, you can anticipate selling for thousands of dollars depending on the era they’re from and the overall condition.’

While furs are easy money, Bulla warns sellers should consider selling in the colder months.

There may be understated furniture pieces in your dining or sitting room that could fetch a pretty penny.

Curl explained: ‘Vintage mid century items from Italy are still in demand.

‘Think lamps, glass and ceramic wares, gilded tole metal wall hangings and furniture.

‘Look for foil labels that state “Murano” or maker stamps on ceramics such as DeSimone and Ginori on dining china.’
