European elections: "Far-right ideas are not compatible with social rights"castigates the CFDT

“Extreme right ideas are not compatible with social rights”castigates Wednesday May 1 on France Inter Marylise Léon, general secretary of the CFDT. The trade unionist believes that a vote for the National Rally is equivalent to “vote against social rights”. “It’s totally contradictory” values held by the CFDT, assures its general secretary.

As the European elections approach, Jordan Bardella, head of the National Rally (RN) list, is leading the race in opinion polls. The leader of the CFDT tries to explain this dynamic by evoking “a crisis of democracy”, a “fatigue, a democratic weariness”. “We have politicians who consider that the exercise of democracy is only the vote and the election and that not much happens between two elections”, she laments. Marylise Léon explains that on the ground, the workers who vote RN “feel considered” because, according to them, the far-right party “talks about real issues, work, purchasing power”. To this, precisely, the CFDT replies that the National Rally represents “deadlock”.

Marylise Léon considers that it “It is urgent that all democratic actors mobilize” to face the dynamic that seems to be driving the National Rally in recent times. She accuses the RN of having “a doctrine which is based on the inequality of rights between workers”. “Foreigners remain the scapegoats, the problems for all the ills in France and it’s a total impasse,” she laments.

The general secretary of the CFDT is convinced that “unionism is a bulwark against the rise of the extreme right”. She also specifies that on May 23, as part of the electoral campaign, her union “will invite all the heads of the list who have a European project and who share our values”. She promises that he “there will be no representatives of the two far-right parties”, namely the National Rally and Reconquest. To justify this decision, she recalls that her union “do not debate with those in charge of the RN, [mais] “On the other hand, in the workplace, our job is to meet the voters of the RN to explain to them our vision of things, so that they can form their own opinion and be convinced that it can only be a dead end”underlines the trade unionist.
