The European Union sends aid to Gaza through the Cyprus sea corridor

Brussels, May 17 / WAM / The European Commission in Brussels announced the launch of a new shipment of aid provided by the European Union, from Cyprus to Gaza via the sea corridor and the newly constructed American pier.

The Commission stated that Romania sent, through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, more than 88,000 food parcels to the Gaza Strip, and the Commission covers the costs of transporting them. A European Union logistics center was also established in Cyprus to help deal with the flow of more aid to the Gaza Strip. Gaza.

She explained that the European Union Emergency Response Coordination Center is in close contact with member states and partners in the humanitarian field, to mobilize assistance through the sea corridor with the aim of increasing supplies.

The Commission stressed that the sea corridor is complementary and is not intended to replace the current land routes to Gaza, such as the Kerem Shalom and Rafah crossings, calling on Israel to allow sustainable access for aid using new routes such as the Erez crossing and the port of Ashdod.
