Aleutian Islands Hit by Strong 5.6 Magnitude Earthquake

A powerful earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale occurred in the waters of the Pacific Ocean south of the Aleutian Islands (Alaska, USA). This was reported by the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as reported by Interfax.

According to rapid analysis, the epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred at 10:11 Moscow time on Thursday, was located 81 km southwest of the settlement of Nikolsky on Umnak Island and 1567 km southwest of Anchorage.

The intensity of the tremors at the epicenter of the seismic event is assessed as “very strong”.

Prior to this, an earthquake occurred in the waters of the Pacific Ocean, 230-248 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

On April 29, an underground shock with a magnitude of 3.6 was recorded 35 km northeast of the city of Kaba in Altai County in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. According to experts, the epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 26 km from the border with Kazakhstan and 100 km from the border with Russia. The intensity of the tremors there reached 4.3 on the MSK-64 scale.
