"fly Dubai" Launches a comprehensive fleet modernization project

Dubai, May 6 / WAM / Flydubai has recorded sustainable growth in the number of passengers since the beginning of this year, as it transported about five million passengers during the period from January 1 to April 28, 2024, an increase of 13 percent compared to last year.

Since the beginning of 2024, flydubai’s network has grown with operations to Mombasa, Langkawi, Penang, Al Jouf and the Red Sea.

The carrier also announced the expansion of its European network with the launch of flights to Basel, Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius.

With the start of flights to its seasonal summer destinations between June and October, the carrier’s network grows to more than 125 destinations in 58 countries.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said: “Flydubai continues to constantly expand its network, and I am pleased to see our operations growing further in Southeast Asia with the addition of Malaysia in addition to the continued expansion in Africa and Europe in particular,” noting that with the growth of seat capacity “Our passenger numbers have grown since the beginning of this year, although this growth has been diminished by continuing delays in aircraft deliveries.”

Al Ghaith added: “We are still on track for one of our busiest summers ever with the seasonal summer schedule starting from June. Our focus over the next few months is on an ambitious modernization project across the fleet that will ensure a more comfortable and reliable customer experience on board.” ” .

Today, flydubai’s fleet has increased to 86 Boeing 737 aircraft, with two new aircraft joining since the beginning of 2024 to serve our growing network, with six more aircraft expected to be delivered by the end of the year, amid ongoing challenges in the supply chain and delays in the aircraft delivery schedule.

Flydubai’s fleet consists of 29 new generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft, 54 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and 03 Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft.

The carrier has launched a project that will see a complete modernization of the interior cabins of the majority of the company’s fleet of new generation Boeing aircraft.

Launched in January 2024, the multi-million dollar modernization project has completely modernized the cabin of eight aircraft with the installation of business class seats that convert into beds and new Recaro economy class seats that reflect flydubai products on its newer aircraft within the cabin.

All of the updated aircraft will be equipped with an inflight entertainment system to ensure a more comfortable and reliable travel experience for passengers across the fleet.

The company will maintain the same seat distribution in the full economy class configuration in some of its aircraft, and will upgrade the seats to Recaro economy class seats equipped with an in-flight entertainment system.

As part of its investment in enhancing the on-board experience, the company will also increase the seat pitch on business class seats on some of its newer aircraft from 45 to 53 inches.

This project will be launched after the summer as part of the carrier’s efforts to provide a more comfortable travel experience on short and medium-haul flights throughout the region.

The company aims to complete the fleet modernization program before the end of the year, and the ambitious project is being implemented by flydubai’s internal maintenance team and GMR Aerotech Repair and Maintenance Company.

The Fly network includes more than 125 destinations in 58 countries, and more than 90 of these destinations were not connected to direct flights with Dubai, or were not served by a national Emirati airline from Dubai.

Flydubai continues to increase its seat capacity across its markets, with flights across the GCC markets returning to pre-pandemic levels.
