Legendary American singer-songwriter Wanda Young dies

Legendary American singer Wanda Young (Rogers) has died at the age of 78.

According to the singer’s daughter, Young died on December 15 of complications from COPD in Garden City, Michigan.

The singer became one of the first members of the girl group The Marvelettes, which became popular in the United States in the 1960s and peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 1961, as well as on the R&B chart, and remained at the top of the chart for two years. Seven weeks.

Wanda Young left the band in 1969 to pursue a solo career. According to the Daily Mail, the singer recorded several solo albums in 1970. The Motown Company, which is owned by the Marvelettes, released this album as The Return of the Marvelettes. However, the Marvelettes singers refused to participate in creating the album cover and the album failed.

Young later emerged in the late 1980s, accepting an offer from Ian Levine of Motorcity Records to record new singles and remixed versions of Marvelettes classics. She briefly returned to performing in the early 1990s, but without the other members of the group.
