Japanese scientists come up with an effective lifelong vaccine for COVID-19
The Japan Times writes that a group of scientists from the Tokyo Institute of Medical Sciences, led by Professor Michinori Kohara, are working on a vaccine against COVID-19, which confers lifelong immunity.
The smallpox vaccine developed in the 18th century was identified as the basis. The idea of Japanese scientists is to create a recombinant vaccine virus containing the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2.
“Drugs that use vaccine virus vectors are the most powerful of all,” Kohara said.
Moreover, this type of vaccine has minor side effects and does not require special transportation and storage facilities.
The article indicates that the first and second phases of clinical trials of the Kuhhara vaccine will take place in the first half of next year.
