Memorial Day Weekend: JFK Airport Redevelopment Could Cause Some Travel Delays

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — As millions of people prepare to travel for Memorial Day weekend, those flying to or from New York’s JFK airport may experience some delays.

The airport is currently undergoing a massive $19 billion renovation, hoping to modernize the decades-old airport.

The redevelopment of the 80-year-old airport includes construction of new terminals, redesign of the traffic pattern at the airport, expansion of taxiways and centralization of ground transportation.

Some 64 million people are expected to enter and exit JFK airport this year alone.

The airport released some travel advice including:

– Allow additional time due to road construction.

– Use public transportation if possible.

– Use alternative pickup and drop-off locations

3.5 million people are expected to pass through TSA checkpoints this Memorial Day weekend.
