Minister of Education: We are developing a national initiative for adult education to empower them and allow them community participation

Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, opened, via video conference technology, the first regional national symposium on “Concepts of Adult Education and Frameworks between Theory and Practice,” within the framework of the National Initiative for Literacy and Lifelong Learning, and the Capacity Building Series for Workers in the Field of Education. For adults, which is organized by the UNESCO Regional Center for Adult Education in Egypt in partnership with the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning.

 

At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Reda Hegazy welcomed the audience, stressing that the opening of the series Capacity building is something we count on a lot; To benefit those responsible for adult education and learning in the Arab region, as it deals with contemporary topics that respond to pressing needs in Arab countries.

 

The minister pointed out that everyone knows the importance and role of adult education and learning in development. In general, empowering learners to exercise their rights, providing opportunities for active participation in their large and small communities, and the role of adult education in alleviating poverty, improving health and well-being, and sustaining public peace.

 

The Minister expressed his happiness at the start of a qualitative and interconnected series of capacity building adopted by the Regional Center for Adult Education in Surs El-Layan in Egypt, in partnership with the Adult Education Authority and UNESCO represented by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, stressing his firm conviction that capacity development and innovation in the field of adult education, and in all… The fields have become an urgent necessity to meet the changing needs in our society, and in the world of the rapidly changing labor market, as well as the needs resulting from the health and environmental challenges that our countries suffer from, in addition to the crisis conditions experienced by some sisterly Arab countries, in which education has stopped, and the resulting significant increase In the numbers of illiterate people.

 

The Minister explained that in Egypt, we consider this series in capacity building an important step as we are developing a transformative and qualitative national initiative in adult education that aims to reach virtual zero in the numbers of illiterate people. illiterate people by the year 2030, and good preparation is being made to build its elements so that all partners in Egypt can adopt them, and serious work is being done to develop an executive strategy with indicators for measurement and follow-up with national and international support.

 

The minister said that he has confidence. Significant efforts in the efforts of the UNESCO Regional Center for Adult Education in Sars El-Layan in Egypt, and adult education bodies and departments in Egypt and the Arab countries; To lead this work in the Arab region in partnership with UNESCO and regional partners, stressing that Egypt is providing appropriate support for this mission and its sustainability.

 

At the end of his speech, the Minister thanked and appreciated everyone who contributed. In completing this work, he also extended special thanks to the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning for its continued support in the field of adult education in Egypt.

 

In his speech, Dr. Hegazy Idris, Advisor to the Minister of Education, emphasized For lifelong learning, this symposium is the beginning of an integrated and ongoing series of seminars to deepen understanding of the topics presented in the field of “adult education, teaching and evaluation between theory and practice”, with the aim of forming a common language among those working in the field of adult education and learning, and exchanging a lot of experiences in the Arab region. To benefit from it in this field, to correct and avoid confusion in concepts so that they are consistent with local application, and to introduce the most important international mechanisms established for adult education in the world, noting that quality education is considered the fourth goal of sustainable development; To ensure quality, equitable and comprehensive education and enhance lifelong learning opportunities for all.

 

Dr. Eid Abdel Wahed also welcomed  The head of the executive branch of the General Authority for Adult Education, Dr. Reda Hegazy, thanked him  For his support for the General Authority for Adult Education and the Asfak Center, stressing that anticipating the future of adult education has become inevitable, and that the vision of the new authority must keep pace with developments in the concepts of illiteracy and that the future of literacy and adult education be read in a sound scientific manner that takes into account innovation and respect. The great learner.

 

Dr. Eid Abdel Wahed stressed that the role of local, regional and international partners has become important, as it is necessary to rethink the future of financing adult education and the future of literacy and adult education curricula. And thinking about the future of digital solidarity, and the future of measuring and examining literacy and adult education.

 

For her part, Dr. Samah Shalabi, education policy specialist at the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning in Hamburg, Germany, confirmed that This series of seminars serves as a specialized community at the regional level that aims to help Arab countries achieve and implement the recommendations of the Marrakesh Action, in addition to achieving an understanding of the importance of adult education in the Arab region, introducing concepts and comparing them to the national context with differences between theoretical and practical, in addition to identifying multiple needs and characteristics  And advanced adult education.
