Virologists question the danger of the Deltacrone strain

Virologist Viktor Larishev said, “The deltacrone hybrid coronavirus strain detected in Cyprus requires additional study, and it is too early to assess the scale of this type of COVID-19.

According to him, it is impossible to compare the pathogenicity of different versions of the coronavirus.

“Now, absolutely nothing can be assumed. You need to understand which protein, from which virus you got it. The surface protein, which is responsible for almost the bulk of the infection, that is, the S protein from which the strain is transmitted. Therefore, it is impossible to compare the pathogenicity of the omicron. and, for example, the Wuhan dynasty, because they came at different times.”

Larachev noted that many people already have antibodies, so it cannot be argued that the Omicron strain is less pathogenic than Delta.

In turn, virologist Anatoly Altstein explained that viral strains are constantly changing. He also indicated that the “Deltakron” strain would not be able to reach the world level.

The new type of coronavirus deltacron has been discovered in Cyprus. It is a hybrid of the “Delta” and “Omicron” strains.
