Elderberry protects against infection and shortens the duration of symptoms of respiratory infections

Polish researchers from the University of Poznan have discovered a source of elderberry antioxidants that help the body fight infections.

Researchers have found that elderberry contains a high concentration of phenolic acids and flavonoids that increase antibacterial activity.

Scientists from the Franklin Institute of Health in the United States analyzed the recovery rate of patients with upper respiratory tract infections who take elderberry and its extract in addition to their usual medications.
Where they found that the plant significantly shortens the duration of symptoms of such diseases.

Scientists from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the US have also discovered that the mild or asymptomatic course of COVID-19 can cause a prolonged immune response directed against the body’s own tissues and organs. They presented their observations in an article published in the Journal of Translational Medicine.

Doctors monitored the condition of 177 people who were sick with COVID-19. They compared blood samples from these people with samples taken from healthy people before the epidemic. All patients had elevated levels of autoantibodies, which are characteristic of patients with chronic autoimmune diseases, such as lupus erythematosus or rheumatoid arthritis.
