Polish Health Minister Adam Nidzielski said that Polish scientists have discovered a gene that affects the severity of infection with the coronavirus “COVID-19”.

The head of the ministry pointed out that the “risk element” is linked to the “genetic structure.”
Nidzelsky spoke in detail about the work of scientists who examined various indicators (age, physical fitness, etc.) and for more than a year and a half tried to identify the factor responsible for the acute course of COVID-19.

“It was possible to identify a factor that can be considered the fourth in the hierarchy when it comes to the severity of the course of COVID-19. This factor is a specific gene, specific predisposition, which means that in addition to the factors we talked about, we have a very important component that affects whether The patient would have had severe or normal COVID-19 disease.”

According to him, the discovery of Polish scientists will allow in the future to identify people who are predisposed to a more serious course of the disease. It is planned to create a rapid genetic test.
