North Korea is looking for taller bodyguards for Kim Jong Un

North Korean authorities have announced that candidates for the posts of Kim Jong Un’s bodyguards and the party’s ruling elite must be four centimeters taller than last year.

According to media reports, we are talking about those who want to get into the so-called “Detachment 974”, which is tasked with protecting the high command of North Korea. According to the article in the Daily NK, the list of criteria for joining the team is divided into three broad sections.

The rules state that those who have demonstrated academic success are the children of workers, farmers, or soldiers and can become bodyguards. It was also specified that if the candidate became a member of the band, he would not be able to see his family until after 13 years.

All requirements remained unchanged until November 2021, but the DPRK leadership decided to make changes. Previously, candidates with a height of at least 163 cm could become bodyguards, but now the height has been increased to 167 cm.
