Joint project to launch UAE Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (UAEV)

Dubai, May 20 / WAM / The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Union Water and Electricity Company, on the sidelines of the Electric Vehicles Exhibition and Conference, revealed their pioneering joint project, the “Emirates Electric Vehicle Charging Stations” Company (UAEV), which aims to provide a fast and advanced infrastructure. The nascent company is the first nationwide electric vehicle charging network, wholly owned by the UAE government.

The process of transitioning to electric cars globally is witnessing a great acceleration, with sales reaching about 10 million units in 2022, an increase of nearly five times its sales compared to 2019.

The new partnership between the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Union Water and Electricity Company works to ensure that the UAE is able to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles, through a reliable infrastructure for electric vehicles that facilitates the population’s smooth transition to sustainable mobility.

Both the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Union Water and Electricity Union believe in the importance of supporting the infrastructure for electric vehicles in the Emirates, and are aware of its long-term impact on the transport, energy and environmental sectors.

His Excellency Suhail Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, said: “We are pleased with our cooperation with Union Water and Electricity in launching the Emirates Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (UAEV), which embodies the strength of the partnership between the government and the business sector, and aims to provide the vital infrastructure necessary for electric vehicles, which contributes to “In enhancing its spread and increasing reliance on it, it also stimulates the community movement and enhances the economic capabilities and potential of the UAE.”

His Excellency added, “We hope that this partnership will contribute to accelerating the process of transition to clean and environmentally friendly means of transportation, and significantly reduce emissions resulting from the transportation sector, in a way that supports achieving the goals of the UAE strategy for climate neutrality by 2050.”

For his part, His Excellency Engineer Sherif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Company for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (UAEV), said, “In 2023, we witnessed a noticeable increase in reliance on electric vehicles in the UAE, and through the expansion of infrastructure For this vital sector, we ensure the state’s readiness and readiness to support owners of electric vehicles or those who wish to own them, as well as to contribute to making the switch to electric vehicles attractive.”

He added, “The cooperation between the government and the business sector in establishing the (UAEV) company is rooted in the complementary strengths of both parties and their pursuit of common goals.”

He explained, “The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Union Water and Electricity Company together form a strong alliance capable of supporting the UAE in its efforts to plan for the future and achieve the goals of both economic growth and climate action.”

The availability of infrastructure for electric vehicles, represented by charging stations, is essential and indispensable for increasing the population’s dependence on electric vehicles.

In this context, UAEV aims to strengthen the state’s efforts in transitioning to a sustainable electric mobility system, in line with the vision of the state’s wise leadership regarding this sector, and the extent of its awareness of its close relationship with sustainability and economic development, especially since this relatively new sector holds opportunities. Promising economic growth, including the creation of new job opportunities, as well as the role of this structure and the greater spread of electric vehicles it will lead to, in supporting the reduction of carbon gas emissions and achieving environmental sustainability.

For his part, Engineer Yousef Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Union Water and Electricity Company and member of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Company for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (UAEV), said, “The launch of the Emirates Company for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (UAEV) is a major achievement for us, and comes within the framework of a systematic strategy.” And a deliberate effort to diversify our operations, by relying on the knowledge and experience gained, emanating from our role as a pioneer in the energy sector in the United Arab Emirates for many years.”

Al Ali stressed that the new company is classified as part of the efforts of “Union Water and Electricity” to explore market needs and provide new investment products and services that will benefit our customers on the one hand, as it enables them to make more sustainable choices, and on the other hand, it supports… National strategies at several levels, especially at the level of sustainability and climate file management.

As the largest service company in the Northern Emirates, with a customer base of more than two million residents, Etihad Water and Electricity recognizes the impact of its consumers’ choices on the environmental sector.

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Union Water and Electricity Company expect to reveal more details about UAEV and its future plans before the end of 2024.
