Canada withdraws embassy staff from Kiev

The Government of Canada has decided to recall the employees of its embassy in Kiev and the families of diplomats who are not involved in the operational work.

“Canada has taken the decision to temporarily withdraw support staff from its embassy in Ukraine and the rest of the diplomats’ family members,” the government said in a statement on the Canadian Cabinet website.

They stressed that they continue to closely monitor the development of the situation in Ukraine, while the safety of Canadian citizens remains Ottawa’s top priority.

The Canadian Cabinet also confirmed that the country’s officials are ready to provide consular assistance to Canadian citizens as needed, and the Canadian Embassy in Ukraine will remain open.
