Tree stump on Mars

Tree stump on Mars…..

They discovered a crater that looks like a stump from above. This was reported by the European Space Agency.

The image was taken by the European-Russian ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter on June 13, 2021. The image was taken from an altitude of 400 km above the Acidalian Plain in the planet’s northern hemisphere at 52 degrees latitude.

The crater was formed as a result of a meteorite fall and has a diameter of more than five kilometers. Its inner surface is rich in water ice, it is assumed that it formed in a past era, when the axis of inclination of the planet was different, and liquid water could appear in this region.

The most obvious outward sign of this hole is a pattern in the form of concentric circles, similar to the annual rings of a cut tree. According to the scientists, these circles were formed due to seasonal changes in temperature, which caused cycles of expansion and contraction in the ice-rich matter. Thus, the crater is likely to help investigate the history of the Martian climate.

The Trace Gas Orbiter was launched in 2016. Its main task is to explain the origin of methane and other gases in the Martian atmosphere, which may indicate biological activity.
