Ahmed bin Hamdan crowns the winners of the Abu Dhabi Grand Kingfishing Championship 2024

ABU DHABI, 27 APRIL / WAM / Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, President of the Emirates Modern Sailing and Rowing Federation, and His Excellency Arif Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, crowned the winners of the Abu Dhabi Grand Kingfishing Championship 2024, which was held under the patronage of His Highness the Sheikh. Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

The tournament was organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, as part of an effort to preserve traditional competitions that express the UAE’s maritime heritage.

The coronation ceremony was held at the Mohammed Khalaf Majlis in the Karama area, Abu Dhabi, and was attended by a number of tournament participants, members of the organizing committee, and media representatives, during which Hamad Al Kamali was awarded the first place prize, amounting to 200,000 dirhams, after he was able to catch a kingfish weighing 32.69 kilograms. Omar Al Buraiki won the second place prize, amounting to 150,000 dirhams, and Mohammed Al Marzouqi received the third place prize, amounting to 100,00 dirhams.

Participants in the tournament from outside the UAE, from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Sultanate of Oman, and the Kingdom of Bahrain, were honored, as well as the Emirati women’s Al-Namous team participating in the tournament, and the supporting bodies, sponsors and partners who played a major role in the successes achieved in the Abu Dhabi Grand Kingfishing Championship, and they are Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, Yas Canal, Dalma Marine, Abu Dhabi Marine, National Guard Command, Abu Dhabi Defense Authority, Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, and Mohammed Khalaf Council.

More than 1,500 fishermen participated in the event, the largest in the region, on more than 360 fishing boats. 138 boats delivered 166 kingfish for weighing, and everyone competed for prizes totaling more than one million dirhams.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Kingfishing Championship has become one of the most important marine sporting events that preserves the popular heritage of kingfishing for the people of the Emirates, encourages the community to practice fishing, promotes the concept of reviving local marine heritage, and provides opportunities for amateurs to practice fishing, revitalize that hobby, and revive the spirit of fishing. Competition among them in the sport of marine fishing.
