Meta denies closing Facebook and Instagram in Europe

A representative of Meta (formerly Facebook) said that the company did not want to leave the European market, but that there were already “difficulties” in meeting the requirements of EU law.

A Meta spokesperson said: “We never want or plan to leave Europe, but the fact is that Meta and many other companies, organizations and services rely on data transmission between the EU and the US to provide global services. Like other companies, we follow European regulations and rely on contractual clauses. standard and appropriate data protection measures for the provision of these services,”

He also noted that companies need clear global rules to protect transatlantic data flows in the long term. Currently, Meta and more than 70 other companies across a wide range of industries are closely watching “how this might affect their European operations as the situation evolves”.
