US sends additional destroyers to Europe

US Navy spokesman Arlo Abrahamson told the US Navy four missile destroyers are in European territorial waters to reinforce their positions amid escalating tensions over Ukraine.

Destroyers Donald Cook, Mitcher, Sullivan and Gonzales.

“While they are there, they will participate in a number of naval operations in support of the United States’ Sixth Fleet and our NATO allies,” Abrahamson said.

These destroyers are able to withstand air and naval forces, as well as enemy landings. Each ship can carry up to 56 Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 1.6 thousand km. In addition, the ships are equipped with the Aegis missile defense system (Aegis).
