A tornado in southern China leaves 38 dead and injured

BEIJING, April 28 / WAM / Five people were killed and 33 others were injured, as a result of a powerful tornado that struck Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province in southern China, yesterday.
According to the Chinese “Xinhua” news agency, the tornado struck the town of “Shonglutan” in the Baiyuan district of the city, while the meteorological station in Liangtian village recorded a maximum wind speed of 6.20 meters per second.
Rescuers and emergency teams were sent to the hurricane site immediately to recover the victims and transport the injured to the hospital.
