Elizabeth train crash: 3 cars hit by falling poles and debris after freight train hits wires on railroad tracks
ELIZABETH, New Jersey (WABC) — Three cars were hit by falling poles and debris Monday after a freight train struck wires on railroad tracks in Elizabeth, authorities say.
The incident occurred shortly before 1:00 pm as the train was passing on Division Street.
The train collided with the cables, causing several poles to fall and the cars to be impacted. The people in the cars suffered minor injuries.
The intersection of Trumbull and Division streets will be closed for the next few hours.
PSE&G officials say they have restored power to all except about 20 customers who will remain without power until repairs are completed.
They will also be installing five new utility poles and we expect the restoration to be completed by Tuesday at 7 am.
The incident is under investigation.
