Venue for Euro 2028 announced

The 2028 European Championships are set to take place in the UK and Ireland, where they become potential hosts without facing competition from other countries.

Turkey is likely to withdraw its candidacy because it failed in two last euro bids in 2016 and 2024 and wants to avoid another defeat, while Russia’s bid is rendered invalid due to its suspension from international sport.

National Societies interested in hosting Euro 2028 must announce this by March 23, 2022.

UEFA is expected to increase the number of participants in the 2028 European Championship from 24 to 32 teams and the tournament will require a minimum of 12 stadiums.

On February 28, FIFA and UEFA decided to exclude the Russian national team, as well as all Russian clubs from participating in all competitions controlled by these organizations.
