Universal Music suspends its activities in Russia

Universal Music, the world’s largest record label, has suspended its activities in Russia due to the situation in Ukraine.

“We are immediately suspending all activities in Russia and closing our offices there,” the company said in a statement.

According to Variety, Universal Music will continue to pay its employees, but audio recording for musicians collaborating with the company will be paused.

A subsidiary of the eponymous institution operates in Russia, with which more than 50 artists collaborate, including Eldzhey, Noize MC, Nike Borzov, Lolita and others. Among the most famous representatives of the record company are the South Korean pop group BTS and American singers Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Metallica, Rammstein, Coldplay and Imagine Dragons.

It is reported that the “United Russia” party proposed on Sunday to nationalize the production of companies that left Russia.
