Infectious disease specialist Elena Myskina said that COVID-19 can provoke diabetes, pulmonary fibrosis and thyroiditis, which cannot be cured and remain forever.
According to her, recent laboratory studies have shown that one of the main consequences in 15% of patients who become infected with the Coronavirus is the development of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Therefore, in two of these 15%, diabetes began to progress due to COVID-19 .
“That is, the pathogen was already in their bodies, only Covid gave the impetus to its early manifestations. For the rest of the people, it arose for the first time, so to speak, for the first time as a direct and negative consequence after the disease.”
Maskina warned that pulmonary fibrosis is another disease that has become almost prevalent among those infected with the Corona virus, and some patients may develop thyroiditis, an inflammatory lesion that affects the thyroid gland, which is quickly at risk of becoming chronic.
Unfortunately, the Corona virus strikes the heart, which leads to a heart attack and inflammation of the heart muscle, which is also called myocarditis. “Sclerosis of the heart is another serious consequence, in which the patient’s normal muscle tissue is replaced in the myocardium with rigid and inelastic formations,” the infectious disease specialist said.
According to Maskina, the consequences may appear during the development of the post-COVID syndrome, and in this regard, it makes sense to undergo additional examinations even if there are no health complaints.
