Travel activity rebounds in China during the Labor Day holiday

BEIJING, 6 MAY/WAM/ During this year’s five-day Labor Day holiday, China witnessed about 8.46 million incoming and outgoing border crossing movements, an increase of 35.1% compared to the same period last year, according to the Chinese National Immigration Administration.

The authority reported, in a statement carried by China Central Channel, today, Monday, that the peak of cross-border crossing movement in one day reached 1.801 million movements, on May 3.

It indicated that the number of movements crossing borders by mainland residents amounted to about 4.768 million movements, an increase of 38% over the same period in 2022, while residents of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan recorded 2.919 million movements, an increase of 20.8%, while the movements of foreigners across the border amounted to 779 thousand movements, an increase. 98.7%.
