Germany refuses to supply Ukraine with 100 Marder combat vehicles

Germany refused to supply Kyiv with 100 Marder infantry fighting vehicles in response to a request from Kyiv last week.

According to the Welt newspaper, on Wednesday, the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry Oleksiy Reznikov sent a letter to the German Defense Ministry. In his appeal, he requested the transfer of 100 Marder infantry fighting vehicles and other heavy weapons to the Ukrainian side. Sources in Kyiv told the newspaper that German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht refused this request in a telephone conversation with Reznikov.

The German Ministry of Defense confirmed to Welt the existence of such a request.

“All our Marder infantry fighting vehicles are bound by obligations within NATO, and the issue of their withdrawal from positions must be resolved within the framework of NATO,” the ministry said.

They stressed that issues of transferring defense products are not decided by the Secretary of Defense but by the federal government as a whole.
