Stoltenberg visited Kyiv on an unannounced visit

Cairo: Hani Kamal El-Din

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited Kyiv. The visit of the head of the military alliance had not previously been announced.

At a press conference with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Stoltenberg admitted that NATO countries had not fully fulfilled their obligations to Kiev. In particular, the Secretary General recalled the coordination of US military assistance that had dragged on for six months and problems with the shipment of shells from the European Union.

However, Stoltenberg stressed that the situation will change. “It is not too late for Ukraine to win. But that is why it is so important that NATO allies now actually do what we promised, and that we turn these commitments into real deliveries of weapons and ammunition,” said the head of the military alliance.

Stoltenberg also said that cooperation between NATO and Kyiv makes Ukraine’s path to joining the union irreversible, but it will not be possible to agree on the country’s membership at the alliance summit in Washington in July. Approval of membership requires a consensus decision of all 32 NATO countries.
