US Senate unanimously agrees to ban energy imports from Russia

The Senate of the US Congress backed the ban on energy imports from Russia amid the Ukraine crisis, and all 100 senators voted in favor of the corresponding bill.

The adopted bill codifies US President Joe Biden’s order to ban Russian energy imports.

Earlier, US President Joseph Biden decided on the “largest liberation ever” of oil reserves from the country’s strategic reserves.

Before that, Biden announced that the United States and its allies, who represent “half of the global economy”, would withdraw from the system of normal trade relations with Russia. He said this would “be another severe blow to the Russian economy”, which has already been hit hard by US sanctions.
