Le Pen leads Macron in first round of presidential elections
French National Rally leader Marine Le Pen is leading in the first round of France’s presidential election with nearly 60% of the vote counted – with 28.2% support.
Incumbent French President Emmanuel Macron received 26.15% of the vote.
Meanwhile, an Ifop poll showed Macron would win the second round of elections on April 24 with 51% of the vote, Reuters reports. And Le Pen, according to the results of the poll, will get 49% of the vote.
On Sunday, France held the first round of the presidential elections. According to the polling day, French President Emmanuel Macron leads the race with 28.5%. Followed by Marine Le Pen who was supported by 24.2% of voters.
These two candidates are followed by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the leftist France rebel party, with 20.2% of the vote.
This week, Politico wrote, citing three unnamed US administration officials, that the US government fears the possibility of Marine Lane Penn coming to power.
