Shanghai tightens lockdown due to spread of new SARS-CoV-2 virus

Shanghai, which is under severe lockdown, has tightened restrictions imposed in connection with the spread of a new strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.
The Guardian reported.

The Guardian does not indicate the exact measures under consideration, but it is assumed that even people without COVID-19 in areas with a low infection rate in the near future will not be able to move freely around the city.

In addition, the city authorities recently introduced daily tests for most residents for signs of infection with the new coronavirus.

“Our goal is to achieve zero levels of COVID-19 in the city as soon as possible,” the authorities said.

On April 14, China recorded a new daily record of infections since the beginning of the epidemic (29,411 cases). The largest number of infected people per day was recorded in Shanghai (2,573) and in the northeastern Jilin Province (325).
