Reasons for not removing tonsils in children?

According to otolaryngologist Nina Rudenko, the palatine tonsils (tonsils) were considered an unnecessary organ that can cause colds and infections.

Therefore, doctors often remove the tonsils if they are enlarged. But in recent years, doctors have revised this method of “treatment”, in which children who subsequently lost an organ suffer from colds and infections of the lower respiratory tract – bronchitis, bronchitis, pneumonia.

The otolaryngologist explained, “The fact is that children were deprived of a protective barrier for infection in the throat, because the palatine tonsils perform an immune function and prevent infection from entering the lower respiratory tract.”

She added that doctors are now resorting to tonsillectomy only based on strict indications.

The expert concluded that “in most cases, doctors still try to treat the tonsils conservatively, as modern treatment methods allow them to do this and preserve the palatine tonsils in children until they perform their immune functions”.
