Agriculture: Gabriel Attal must unveil a panel of"advances" regarding farmers’ cash flow

Gabriel Attal is preparing to announce new measures for the agricultural world this Saturday, April 27, more than three months after the crisis that shook France, franceinfo has learned. Traveling in the Channel, the Prime Minister will unveil 14 “advances”particularly on cash flow issues, which are central to farmers in difficulty, and which will complement or add to the measures already undertaken by the executive.

The main announcement targets the most fragile farms that banks refuse to support. Farmers will be able to request a loan from the Public Investment Bank (BPI), which has a budget of 100 million euros. BPI France can also transform one of their receivables into an immediate loan, or provide a guarantee for a loan in a commercial bank. For farmers in debt following a health or climatic disaster, the Prime Minister will issue a partial tax exemption.

A plan to support Mediterranean agriculture, worth 50 million euros, must also be announced by the Prime Minister. It aims to support farmers in order to accelerate adaptation to climate change. Three departments in the west of the Mediterranean rim are particularly concerned: Hérault, Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales which are facing chronic drought.

With this latest package of measures, the government estimates “provide a global response to the concerns of farmers and their unions”. Gabriel Attal announced in February more than 400 million euros in emergency aid and opened a construction site on 62 then 67 “commitments”placing agriculture “above everything”.
