Italian Foreign Ministry: The world is waiting for a food war

Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said an interview with La Stampa newspaper. The world is on the path of a food war if grain can no longer be exported from Ukraine.

According to him, the shortage of wheat and grain could be overcome only by creating a protected corridor that would ensure the transport of Ukrainian grain by sea.

“It is very difficult in terms of land routes…otherwise we will not face a simple food crisis, but a food war with incalculable consequences,” the Italian diplomat said.

The share of Russian and Ukrainian cereals (wheat, barley) in the world market was up to 30%, corn – up to 20%, and sunflower oil – almost 75%.

And earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that sanctions against Russia are an atomic bomb, because of which it will be impossible to feed people.

The day before, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the resumption of grain exports from Ukrainian ports would happen in the near future if “outside movers” persuade Kyiv to clear the minefields.
