Detection of a new subtype of the Corona virus “Centaur” for the first time

In Russia, several cases of the substrain of the disease “omicron” – a strain of the “Centaur” coronavirus, have been recorded.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, as of July 19, 2022, five genome sequences labeled as BA.2.75 (“Centaurs”) of the Omicron strain have been uploaded to Moscow. It is noted that all patients carry the infection mildly and do not need to be hospitalized.

Rospotrebnadzor also said that the increase in the incidence of the coronavirus is directly related to the spread of new variants of the Omicron strain.

The department also reported that the proportion of cases of the South African subspecies of the Omicron strain had risen to 51.67% in the past two weeks. Experts noted that the disease of patients with subtypes of “Omicron” strains BA.4 and BA.5 in most cases proceeds without complications.
