Europe decides to prepare for winter without Russian gas

European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton said that Europe has decided to prepare for the first winter without Russian gas.

We have made a decision: we are preparing for a winter without Russian gas. In order to get through this and possibly next winter, EU countries can extend the operation of their nuclear or coal-fired plants.

In turn, Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, spoke about the importance of the transition to alternative energy, which has become in demand for the first time in the conditions of extremely high gas prices.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she believed the EU could be deprived of Russian gas supplies, Interfax reported. According to her, such a development of events “will have an impact on all countries of the European Union.”
