US State Department approves $1.2 billion sale of Patriot missiles to Holland

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (part of the Pentagon) said the US State Department has approved a deal to sell the Netherlands “Patriot ballistic missiles” and related equipment for a total amount of about $1.219 billion.

The ministry confirmed that the Dutch government had earlier asked Washington to sell 96 missiles of this type.

“The proposed transaction will support US foreign policy and national security objectives by helping to strengthen the security of a NATO ally that is an important force in the context of political stability and economic progress in Europe,” the statement said.

The ministry expects that the sale of US missiles will allow the Netherlands to “confront current and future threats”.
