The European Union calls on Israel to end its military operation in Rafah immediately
Brussels, May 15 / WAM / The European Union called on Israel to immediately end its military operation in Rafah.
The European Union said in a statement issued today by the European High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, that this military operation will lead to further disruption of the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza, internal displacement, and exposure to famine and human suffering.
The European Union called on Israel to refrain from further aggravating the already deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza and to reopen the Rafah crossing.
Borrell said, “If Israel continues its military operation in Rafah, this would inevitably put severe pressure on the European Union’s relationship with Israel.”
He stressed that under international humanitarian law, Israel must allow and facilitate the unhindered passage of humanitarian aid to civilians.
