Suhail Al Mazrouei inspects the areas and federal roads affected by the rain

Dubai, May 9 / WAM / His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, inspected, during a field tour, a number of affected areas and dams on the eastern coast as a result of the unprecedented rainwater that the country witnessed recently, with the aim of examining the progress of work in restoring… Rehabilitating them and ensuring the efficiency and safety of dams’ performance.

His Excellency also inspected the progress of work in maintaining a number of damaged projects, especially federal roads, which the Ministry began implementing immediately following the weather situation that the country witnessed, and directed the necessity of maintaining the projects and raising their efficiency in a modern way to ensure the safety of citizens and property and reduce the damage that rainwater may cause later. And finding practical and sustainable solutions to ensure the efficiency of infrastructure under emergency circumstances

His Excellency reviewed the project to protect rock cuts, which is considered one of the radical and permanent solutions to damage resulting from rain, stressing its importance in protecting vital federal roads on the eastern coast.

During the field tour, His Excellency was accompanied by His Excellency Engineer Hassan Mohammed Juma Al Mansouri, Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Roads Affairs, His Excellency Engineer Mohammed Al-Mail, Assistant Undersecretary for the Federal Infrastructure Assets Sector, and His Excellency Engineer Yousef Abdullah, Assistant Undersecretary for the Federal Infrastructure Projects Sector.

His Excellency the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure confirmed that work is underway, in cooperation with strategic partners, to prepare detailed and comprehensive studies on the need for dams and water canals for expansion and development, in addition to developing infrastructure and enhancing its resistance to torrents and rain, including increasing the capacity of dams to accommodate larger quantities of water, so that Ready for any future developments, in a way that contributes to containing similar weather conditions that may occur in the future.

His Excellency explained that the Ministry has developed an integrated operational plan to repair the damage on all federal road networks with preventive measures to ensure the sustainability of rainwater drainage networks and ensure their permanent readiness, pointing out that the Ministry is working diligently to search for solutions that will reduce the damage resulting from rainwater. During the winter, providing support and assistance to relevant local government agencies with the aim of strengthening and supporting the infrastructure system.

At the end of the tour, His Excellency stressed the importance of achieving integration between federal and local authorities and joint work for future planning to prevent or reduce the impact of such incidents, and to ensure the efficiency of infrastructure and dams, and their ability to deal with emergency situations that may occur in the future, expressing his gratitude to all partners. Those who provided their support in light of the climatic conditions that the country experienced, including local and federal teams, the private sector, and community members who contributed to the speed of recovery.

It is worth noting that the unprecedented rains that the country witnessed led to the dams being full and 70 percent of them overflowing, without recording any damage to public and private property, while the amount of rain impounded by the dams supervised by the Ministry, amounting to 103 dams, barriers and water lakes in various regions of the country, reached 40 million. Cubic metres, which represents 50 percent of the dams’ capacity of 80 million cubic metres.
