On April 30, Kyiv municipal services began dismantling the monument in honor of the Pereyaslav Rada of 1654, at which the decision was made to grant the Cossacks citizenship to the Russian Tsar.

The monument is located under the former Arch of Friendship of Peoples, which was later renamed the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People.

The administration of the Ukrainian capital says that dismantling may take several days, since the structure is quite massive and consists of 20 elements. It is expected that in the future the monument will be kept in the State Aviation Museum of Ukraine named after Antonov, reports “RBC-Ukraine”.

The monument to the Pereyaslav Agreement is the second monument of the Soviet era that was dismantled and removed from under the arch. Kyiv authorities removed the first monument symbolizing the reunification of Ukraine and Russia in April 2022 – two months after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
