Axe hovers over coach with Souths board set to meet

South Sydney will make a decision on Jason Demetriou’s future on Tuesday morning as pressure continues to heat up on the coach.

The Rabbitohs’ 54-20 loss to the Storm on Anzac Day could be the final nail in the coffin for Demetriou with the side coming last after the Titans’ first win of the season.

9news and The Sydney Morning Herald reporter Michael Chammas revealed on Nine’s 100% Footy that the South Sydney board will meet at 8am (AEST) at Heffron Park to decide on Demetriou.

“My understanding of the situation is they’re going to be presented a raft of options including the immediate termination of coach Jason Demetriou,” he said.

“Whether or not the board will go down that path, time will tell. There’s no doubt there have been conversations in that club about where they’re heading as a football team and whether or not Jason Demetriou is developing that team and the players individually to the standard they’d expect.”

If the Rabbitohs do decide to sack Demetriou, it’s likely assistant coaches Ben Hornby and Dave Furner will take control.
