“The Role of Media Culture in Supporting World Understanding and Peace.” An international conference in Cairo next April

Under the patronage of Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, and headed by Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, the UNESCO Alliance for Media and Informatics Culture, in cooperation with the Arab Academy, the Autonoma University of Barcelona in Spain, and the International Institute for Media and Informatics Culture, is organizing an international conference under the title : “The role of media culture in supporting world understanding and peace during the period from April 22-24, 2024”.

 

The conference is scheduled to be opened by the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States at the university’s headquarters. Arab countries, April 22, in the presence of the conference participants, including experts, university professors, media professionals, and civil society organizations from Egypt and a number of countries around the world.

 

 Experts from Arab countries and the United States participate in the conference. The United States, Canada, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Finland, India, China, the Russian Federation, Nigeria, and representatives of UNESCO offices in the Arab region and the Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for the Communication and Information Sector from UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris.

 

It targets The conference raises awareness of the important role that media culture can play in supporting global understanding and spreading a culture of peace. UNESCO has been playing a pivotal role in this regard for more than 40 years in order to raise awareness of the importance of media and information culture, especially for young people and children. Age. 

 

 

A statement issued by the Naval Academy said that the development witnessed by the media and the pivotal role it plays in raising youth Shaping views through information and entertainment, and more recently making it so important during the Covid-19 crisis, the current multi-year context highlights not only pandemic challenges, but also global conflicts.

 

The statement added that the intertwining between reliance on the media and current geopolitical challenges underscores the need for increased attention by parents, educators, media professionals and policy makers to what the media publishes and the public is exposed to, especially youth and the very young.

 

While the media are still necessary for communication and as main sources of information and news,  excessive reliance on them requires careful management and a high degree of awareness, and this necessitates developing the critical thinking skills of the younger generation and equipping them with many skills. The other enables them to deal with the media in a positive and healthy manner, which helps reduce the negative effects of the media. Guiding them through the media landscape, especially in times of conflict, becomes necessary to promote a conscious approach to consuming information. Balancing the benefits of media access with the risks of disinformation is essential to overcome the complexities of information providers, through both traditional and digital media, exert a significant influence on the cultural identities and media landscape of any society.
