NYC subway horror as man is killed after being pushed onto tracks in another unprovoked attack – just weeks after Gov. Hochul vowed to deploy National Guard and State Police to crime-plagued network

A man died Monday evening after being shoved onto the subway tracks in what police are saying was an unprovoked attack at a Harlem station.

A 45-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly shoving another man onto the tracks before an oncoming train at the 125th Street station at Lexington Avenue in East Harlem.

The suspect was reportedly described as an emotionally disturbed person.

The fatal incident occurred around 6.45pm on Monday. The victim was pushed on the uptown platform in front of a train that was unable to stop, according to a police spokeswoman.

Neither the victim nor the attacker have been identified.

Number 5 trains in both directions were severely delayed following the attack, according to the MTA. Though normal service to the station had resumed by 9pm.

A large number of officers remain at the scene.

Footage of the scene posted to the Citizen App from earlier in the evening showed a number of shocked New Yorkers standing on the platform as word spread about a man underneath the tracks.

The horrifying episode unfolded just weeks after New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced she would deploy National Guard troops, as well as State Police officers into the NYC subway system, where crime and violent incidents have increased in recent years.

Just days after Hochul’s announcement, a fight on the A train ended in a shooting, leaving many New Yorkers under the impression that the massive transportation system is next-to-impossible to police.
